Samsung's first smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear, has not lived up to the expectations of many and has received a lot of negative feedback for not being that great of a first-time product. But for the second generation of the Gear, it seems Samsung doesn't want to leave any stones unturned, as it has now announced that it will be sponsoring Innovation World Cup of Wearable Technologies at the Wearable Technologies Conference in Munich on January 27 to 28, 2014, where startups and independent folks will show off their ideas and implementation of wearable technology.

Samsung is most likely looking forward to finding a few good ideas at the event and scooping up those ideas and the people behind them – this will help them improve wearable tech they're already working on, such as the Galaxy Gear 2 and the rumored “Gear Glass” smart glasses, while also giving them the necessary ideas for other types of wearable devices. The move would also form a part of Samsung's ongoing endeavor to acquire startups that help them improve both software and hardware services.

“We see a huge potential in the field of wearables, and are looking forward to great new ideas. As a total component solutions provider, it is great to have the opportunity to enable and support more innovative products and technologies,” said Frank Koch, head of Strategic Business Development, Samsung Semiconductor Europe.
