The Galaxy A54 was 2023's best Samsung mid-range phone, and next year, it will be succeeded by the Galaxy A55. The Galaxy A55 will probably be the most feature-packed Samsung phone in 2024 as the company seems to have canceled the Galaxy A7x lineup to avoid encroaching on the segment that is dominated by its Fan Edition smartphones.
The Galaxy A54 was the first device in the lineup to feature a glass back panel, and the Galaxy A55 follows suit. The overall design language will likely be similar to that of the Galaxy S24 series and the many other mid-range phones Samsung will launch next year, though nothing is confirmed as of November 21, 2023. Features such as water and dust resistance will be a part of the package as well.
Galaxy A55 specs include the Exynos 1480 chipset. The Exynos 1480 sports an AMD-powered GPU, a first for a mid-range Exynos chip, which brings notable gains in performance compared to any existing Galaxy A device. The Exynos 1480 is accompanied by 6GB, 8GB, or 12GB of RAM. Storage options include 128GB and 256GB.
The Galaxy A55 has a 5,000 mAh battery like the Galaxy A54, and it supports 25W charging. 5G connectivity is offered as standard. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi 6, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.3.
The Galaxy A55 is expected to feature the same camera setup as the Galaxy A54. The main camera will sport a 50MP sensor and will be accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The same goes for the front-facing camera, which will once again be a 32-megapixel unit.
One UI 6.1 will power all the Galaxy smartphones that will make their debut after the Galaxy S24 series, including the Galaxy A55. One UI 6.1 will bring new AI features to Samsung's flagship phones, and we can expect most of those features to be present on the Galaxy A55 as well.
As for software support, the Galaxy A55 will be eligible for four Android OS upgrades, unless Samsung decides to catch up with Google's 7-year OS update policy for Pixel devices and increases the number of Android upgrades for its mid-range and flagship phones.
The Galaxy A55 will probably be announced in March 2024, 12 months after the Galaxy A54 made its debut. Pricing details are unavailable as of November 21, 2023, but the A55 is likely to be a tad more expensive than the Galaxy A54, just like the A54 was more expensive than the Galaxy A53.
