Like its predecessors, the Galaxy 24 FE will take the best specs from the latest Galaxy S flagship smartphones and package them into something more affordable. It will also bring upgrades to some specs that have remained unchanged or haven’t changed drastically since the first Galaxy S FE model, such as battery capacity and screen size.
The Galaxy S24 FE will match the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra on the software front as well, and there’s one key feature I hope the S24 FE will inherit from its non-FE counterparts: support for seven years of Android, One UI, and security updates.
The Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra became Samsung’s first phones to be eligible for seven years of software updates earlier this year. Samsung later announced the same level of support for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, and seven years of updates is going to be the standard for all Galaxy flagships going forward.
But what about the Galaxy S24 FE? Samsung’s Fan Edition phones fall in the flagship category as well, but since the S24 FE will be the first new FE model since Samsung’s seven-year-update policy was introduced, we will have to wait for the phone's official launch to find out for sure.
If the Galaxy S24 FE does come with a promise of seven years of updates, it will become the most easy-to-recommend Fan Edition phone yet, even if Samsung jacks up the price compared to previous models.
However, that could also result in the S24 FE cannibalizing sales of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+. Samsung could restrict it to five years of updates to avoid that consequence, but fingers crossed that won't be the case.
