Access Google's AI assistant without unfolding the device.

The latest Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE allow you to use Google's powerful Gemini AI assistant on the device's cover screen. There was hope that it may become possible on older devices like the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 with the One UI 8.0 update.
Samsung has only just started rolling out the update to older flip foldables, and as it turns out, it's indeed possible to use Gemini on the cover screen, but enabling it isn't as simple as it may seem.
Gemini won't come up on the lock screen by long pressing the power button. The device would instead ask you to “open phone to continue,” thus defeating the purpose of having access to the assistant through the cover display. Hopefully, Samsung will make it possible to do so in the near future.
AndroidAuthority reports that using Gemini, including Gemini Live, on the device's cover screen requires either using the “Hey Google” command or adding the app to the launcher widget available in Good Lock.
The good news is that most of what you'd expect Gemini to do can be done using the cover display. This includes the conversational abilities of Gemini Live and even camera feed sharing. Both voice and text input are supported for queries.
Samsung has released the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 earlier today. The update will gradually make its way to devices in more regions in the coming days.
