UnionPay, major bank card service provider in China, has teamed up with Samsung to launch a new collaborative payment service.
The service is based on the “NFC-QRC all-in-one” mobile payment solution. This partnership will enable UnionPay card holders from across the globe to link their cards to Samsung Wallet and easily make mobile payments.
With their UnionPay cards added to Samsug Wallet, users will be able to easily choose between NFC payment or QR code payment for any transactions they wish to make. It will also be a shot in the arm for mobile payments, both offline and online, in not just the Greater China region but across the globe. The payment service is being launched in Hong Kong first, with BOC Credit Card coming on as the inaugural issuing partner.
UnionPay is accepted in more than 100 countries and regions. In addition to its massive footprint in China, UnionPay QuickPass services are accepted at more than 23 million POS terminals, while QR code interoperability is live in nearly 50 countries in regions.
This payment service will simply mobile payments for UnionPay card holders across the globe. Samsung is in a unique position to make this possible at scale, given that it's one of the world's top Android smartphone manufacturers.
