Samsung has announced that it is expanding its partnership with security camera maker Arlo. The companies are working together to bring more security capabilities to Samsung's SmartThings smart home platform when using Arlo's cameras. This move comes just after Samsung brought Matter 1.5 integration to SmartThings for improved compatibility with security and video doorbell cameras.
Besides basic actions related to security cameras, the SmartThings app already offers things like package, people, and pet identification, which is powered by Arlo's AI-powered object detection system. In the future, the two companies are planning to bring even better security features to the SmartThings app through Arlo's Smart Security SaaS platform. You will be able to “control more and react faster to security events for added peace of mind.“
While the companies didn't reveal exactly which features they are planning to bring, their aim is to let you do more things related to Arlo cameras right in the SmartThings app. These upcoming features will first roll out in the US and then in other countries and markets.
Mark Benson, Head of SmartThings, said, “Our partnership with Arlo reflects SmartThings' ongoing focus on working with leading innovators to evolve the connected home experience. Together, we're laying the groundwork for new smart security services that will further enhance how users protect and manage their homes through SmartThings.“
Samsung recently announced that it is working with Aqara, Eve, and Ulticam to bring their Matter-compatible cameras to SmartThings. Most recent smart TVs, soundbars, and Family Hub refrigerators have SmartThings Hubs built into them. They also act as Matter Hubs, so you don't need to buy separate hubs to control or set up compatible smart home devices.
