The first extended reality headset from Samsung was officially launched today. The company had previously teased it as Project Moohan but as expected, it has been named Galaxy XR.

Samsung has developed independently tracked controllers for the headset but it doesn't ship them in the box. You have to buy them separately and at $249, they cost a pretty penny, but it's not like you don't have other options.

No need to spend $250 on the controllers

Samsung has priced the Galaxy XR very competitively at $1,799. People are bound to be intrigued at this price point, considering that it's significantly less than Apple's Vision Pro headset. It's also around the same mark as the Galaxy Z Fold phones, so not prohibitively expensive.

If you were to purchase the first-party accessories, it does cross the $2,000 threshold. The controllers cost $249 and Samsung has made a carrying case for the Galaxy XR. It's also being sold separately and costs $249 as well.

You don't necessarily have to buy the controllers, though. The Galaxy XR has support for conventional third-party Bluetooth controllers as well as third-party VR controllers. You can buy them for much less, so it's a good trick to save money on the accessories.
