Samsung’s latest version of Android customisation for Galaxy smartphones, One UI 8.5 (Android 16 QPR2), which the brand is currently beta testing on the Galaxy S25 series, brings many UI changes and new features. One of them is floating pill-shaped bottom bars with pill-shaped tabs.
They replace the rectangular bottom bar with rectangular tabs found in One UI 8.0 (Android 16). They look cleaner and more sophisticated. Now, it looks like the company is planning to refine it even further with One UI 9.0 (Android 17), which we got to see for the first time a couple of days ago.
Tarun Vats has shared images of Quick Share from One UI 9.0. As you can see in the image, it has ma ore compact floating pill-shaped bottom bar compared to that in One UI 8.5. The tabs also seem to be rounder. Samsung could have made these changes to make the UI look more sophisticated and save space. However, the brand could also backtrack on this change, as we have seen in the past.
