Samsung Electronics has kicked off its annual global strategy meetings today. Division heads and chiefs of global subsidiaries will put their heads together for charting a way forward, as the company seeks to reclaim its dominance in the memory chip market and navigate headwinds in other parts of the business.

The company's Executive Chairman Jay Y. Lee is reportedly not going to be in attendance, but will be briefed on the proceedings later. Those in attendance include TM Roh, the de-facto head of Samsung's mobile division and Jun Young-hyun, head of its semiconductor division.

Top leadership will look to find ways out of the current quagmire

The three-day meetings come at a crucial time for Samsung. It's facing intense competition from SK Hynix in the DRAM segment, particularly in the lucrative HBM business.

The mobile division has tariffs to worry about as smartphones could be hit with duties of at least 25% in the United States. Samsung's home appliance and consumer electronics business has to contend with import tariffs of up to 50% on steel products.

Local media reports highlight that the mobile division will discuss the upcoming launch of Samsung's foldable phones next month and regional marketing strategies. All division heads will join a meeting on Thursday to review their first-half performance and adjust strategies for the second half of 2025.

How useful these meetings prove to be remains anyone's guess right now. It's not like the company hasn't already been making efforts to turn things around, but these efforts don't appear to have paid dividends so far.
