It's not uncommon to find yourself in a situation where your hands are full but you need to open the fridge door.

Samsung has come up with a smart and simple solution that eliminates the need to perform daring acts of dexterity when trying to open the fridge with both hands full.

Look ma, no hands

Samsung has confirmed at CES 2026 that its Family Hub smart fridges are being updated with a new feature that brings voice-enabled door opening and closing. This feature works using Bixby and users just need to give it commands like “Open the fridge door,” and “shut the door” for the Family Hub to do what you ask of it.

The feature has been properly implemented as well. The door isn't just opened up a notched, it opens fully at over 90 degrees to provide easy access. It works just as well when you load up on stuff to take out of the refrigerator and you can just give it a voice command for the doors to be closed.

Samsung has continued to improve the capabilities of its Family Hub smart fridges over the years. In 2026, Samsung is also bringing Gemini AI to the Family Hub lineup. The enhanced AI capabilities will allow for more personalized suggestions, improved food tracking, and more.
