Samsung confirmed yesterday that it is ending sales of the Galaxy Z TriFold, just three months after its launch. If you were interested in the device but could not get one, there may be some good news, but only if you are willing to wait. The company is reportedly working on its successor, and a new report claims that the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 will be lighter and thinner than its predecessor.
According to tipster yeux1122, Samsung has started developing two types of hybrid devices. The first is the successor to the Galaxy Z TriFold, while the second device is said to use a slidable OLED screen. The new hinge designed for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 has reportedly completed most of its verification process, and the device could launch in mid-2027. It is expected to be slightly thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which measures just 8.9mm when folded.
Samsung is also working on a device with a slidable OLED display. It will likely use Samsung Display’s Slidable Flex series panel. However, unlike the slidable OLED prototypes showcased by Samsung Display at CES and MWC, Samsung’s first slidable prototype is said to rely on a manual sliding mechanism rather than a motorized system. When extended, the device is expected to feature a 7-inch display.
The slidable OLED device is reportedly thinner than the prototypes showcased at CES and MWC. If Samsung decides to move forward with the product, it could be announced in late 2027 or early 2028.
