Samsung has several competitors in the foldable smartphone market, mostly from China, but none are able to match the global scale at which the company is able to sell its devices. That enables Samsung to enjoy a consistently dominant position in the market.

That dominance was achieved in the third quarter of this year, as recent market data shows, with the company further solidifying its top position.

Samsung remains the undisputed king of the market

Counterpoint Research data shows that Samsung devices made up 64% of all global foldable phone shipments in the July – September period this year. This was an increase of 8 percentage points compared to the same period last year, showcasing continued growth in Samsung's foldable shipments.

The company continues to outperform one of its biggest rivals in the industry, China's Huawei, which saw its market share remain unchanged from Q3 2024 at 15%. Motorola came in third place with a 7% market share while China's Honor came in fourth with 4% of the market.

Global foldable phone shipments have also trended higher this year. The report finds a 14% jump in shipments compared to last year, reaching a new quarterly high for foldable phones, largely led by the popularity of Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7.

However, as a percentage of all smartphone shipments, foldables still have considerable ground to cover. They only made up 2.5% of all smartphone shipments in Q3 2025, showcasing that there's still a long road ahead for foldables to enjoy the kind of ubiquity that other smartphones do.
