Samsung is developing a phone with a clamshell form factor and foldable display that will be more affordable than the Galaxy Z Flip series devices it has been offering for years. The brand may launch it as the Galaxy Z Flip FE or the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, where FE stands for Fan Edition.
According to previous reports, Samsung will use the Exynos 2500 chipset for it. However, a new report claims that the South Korean tech giant may go with an older, slower, and less efficient processor for the phone, the Exynos 2400e, the same SoC that we saw in the Galaxy S24 FE.
According to Android Authority, reliable sources reveal that Samsung’s upcoming product with codename B7R will feature the S5e9945 processor. B7R is the codename for the Galaxy Z Flip FE or the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, and S5e9945 is the model number for the Exynos 2400e.
The Exynos 2400e is a slightly less advanced version of the Exynos 2400 that we saw in the Galaxy S24. The only difference between the two is that the former has a slightly lower clock speed for the Cortex-X4 core than the latter. Another rumour suggests that Samsung will use Integrated Package on Package (IPoP) with this SoC on the Galaxy Z Flip FE to save cost, which will be thicker and run hotter than the traditional method.
While the difference between the Exynos 2400e and Exynos 2400 isn't much, the difference between those two chips and the upcoming Exynos 2500 is huge. The upcoming SoC will not just offer new CPU cores (Cortex-X925) but also new GPU (XClipse 950), NPU, and ISP. Plus, it will be made on a 3nm fabrication process, which is more advanced than the 4nm fabrication process that Samsung has used for the Exynos 2400 siblings.
Samsung has used Qualcomm’s chipsets for all the Galaxy Z Flip series devices till now. Considering that the Galaxy Z Flip FE will be more affordable, it was understandable that the brand chose the more affordable and less advanced, Exynos 2500 processor for it. However, downgrading that to not just Exynos 2400 but Exynos 2400e and using IPoP will result in an underwhelming performance and disappoint a lot of people.
