Samsung Display has been improving foldable display technology for at least the past six years. The Galaxy Z Fold was the first to introduce foldable panels to the public in 2019, and the technology has improved year after year since then. Today, Samsung Display announced a new foldable display brand, MONT FLEX, to mark its latest achievements and promote its revolutionary product.
Through the new MONT FLEX brand, Samsung Display wants to communicate the qualities of its foldable OLED technology to both consumers and industry partners. And by the sounds of it, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 was the first to adopt a foldable display that qualifies for the MONT FLEX label.
Samsung chose the MONT FLEX moniker for its latest foldable display brand because it represents the height of foldable tech innovation — “mont” meaning “mountain” in French. The brand carries the tagline “The pinnacle of foldable innovation.”
In addition, each letter in the word MONT stands for a key technology that makes Samsung's foldable display uniquely premium in the market.
Samsung was the industry's first to apply UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) and LEAD to foldable displays. The latter, LEAD, is a polarizer-free OFC technology.
Today, Samsung's latest foldable panel, which the mobile division used for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, is thinner and lighter than ever and boasts higher durability. It was the first panel to pass the 500,000-fold durability test.
However, Samsung Display aims to supply other industry partners beyond Samsung MX (Mobile eXperience). It's looking for more clients, and according to rumors, Apple may be one of them.
Samsung Display will fully unveil the new MONT FLEX brand at the K-Display 2025 Korea Display Exhibition later this week. The show kicks off on August 7.
