We knew it was coming, and now, it's finally here. Samsung today officially unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold, its first multi-folding form factor. This is the first significant expansion of its foldable lineup in years with the addition of an entirely new style of folding phone.
Samsung has aimed at striking a balance between top-notch performance, portability, and productivity. Unfolded twice, the device reveals a massive 10-inch display which unlocks new dimensions in productivity and entertainment.
The Galaxy Z TriFold has an inward-folding design, the two sides fold on top of each other to protect the main display. Various on-screen alerts and vibrations have been added to automatically alert the user if they're folding the device incorrectly.
Samsung's engineering prowess is on full display with this device, which measures just 3.9mm at its thinnest point. The inner foldable display is a 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X QXGA+ panel with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 1,600 nits peak brightness. It also has a 6.5-inch FHD+ panel with the same adaptive refresh rate and 2,600 nits peak brightness.
The inner display is the real star here. When unfolded, it provides screen real estate similar to three 6.5-inch smartphones. Users can have three different apps open side-by-side and even resize them in multi-window.
The Galaxy Z TriFold is also the first mobile device to feature standalone Samsung DeX, enabling users to power a full working desktop-like environment from anywhere. Samsung is shipping the device with Android 16 One UI 8 out of the box.
There's a customized Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset under the hood with 16GB of RAM and 512GB/1TB of sotrage options. The camera setup has a 12-megapixel ultrawide, 200-megapixel wide, and 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Both the cover and inner displays have a 10-megapixel selfie camera.
Samsung says that the Galaxy Z TriFold has its most advanced hinges yet. There are two differently sized hinges to deliver a smoother and more stable fold. The foldable display has a reinforced overcoat on the shock-absorbing layer for enhanced durability. The device even boasts an IP48 water resistance rating.
The Galaxy Z TriFold also has the largest battery yet on a Samsung foldable device. It has a 5,600mAh three-cell battery, with one cell each placed in the three panels of the device. It supports 45W fast charging to ensure that users can quickly power up their devices and enjoy uninterrupted usage.
All this, and much more, in a device that measures 159.2 x 214.1 x 3.9 mm and weighs 309g. Connectivity options include 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth v5.4; there's also UWB support. All of Samsung's Galaxy AI features, including Photo Assist, Generative Edit, Live Translate, and more, are available from day one.
Samsung will release the Galaxy Z TriFold in South Korea first on December 12 for the equivalent of $2,500. The company has confirmed that the handset will also be launched in the United States, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, China, and Taiwan in the near future.
