Two years ago, Samsung unveiled Vision AI features for its TVs. Slowly, the company has expanded the AI feature set on its Smart Monitors and TVs. Today, the company has launched an entire AI-upscaled channel that improves SD and HD resolution content to 4K resolution for improved quality.
Earlier today, Samsung announced the launch of the All-In-One AI Integrated Channel on Samsung TV Plus in South Korea. It upscales low-resolution dramas from the 2000s era to 4K resolution using AI-based upscaling technology that reduces noise, improves colors, and enhances details. Samsung also used AI to remaster the audio of the content by separating character voices from background audio and improving low-pitched sounds of voices for a more natural tone.
Viewers can watch K-dramas like Autumn in My Heart, The Success Story of a Bright Girl, and Damo in higher visual quality. Soon, the company will also stream more K-dramas, including Winter Sonata, Rooftop Cat, and Tomato.
Samsung said the first AI-enhanced TV channel on Samsung TV Plus also uses the AI Recap feature, which generates recaps of previous episodes by summarising key scenes. The AI Synopsis feature summarises key plot points of each episode to help viewers understand the flow of the story before watching that particular episode.
Choi Joon-heon, head of Samsung's TV Plus division, said, “This launch of an AI integrated channel is a new viewing paradigm that reconstructs the entire viewing experience, from video to audio, with AI. As a global leader in AI TV, Samsung Electronics will continue to innovate its technology.“
