In 2021, the South Korean government awarded Samsung the contract to supply air conditioners in 18,000 low-income homes in the country for free. Happy with its work, the government chose the tech giant for the same project in 2022, 2023, and 2024 as well. Now, for the fourth consecutive year, it has awarded Samsung the contact to supply ACs to people with low income.
In a press release, Samsung says that this year, it will supply 18,000 air conditioners to households with low income across 226 local constituencies for free under the Low-Income Energy Efficiency Improvement Project, led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy. With it, it would have supplied a total of 60,000 ACs under this project over the course of four years.
Samsung says that it will offer ACs with “first-grade energy efficiency rating” under this project, which will result in lower electricity bills, a huge relief for people who are financially burned. It will have fast cooling, a copper ultra-fine antibacterial filter that can filter 99.9% bacteria, auto-cleaning, and tropical night good sleep mode. However, it hasn’t specified the model number.
Commenting on the milestone, Samsung Korea’s Vice President, Ochio, said “It is very meaningful to supply Samsung Electronics’ high-efficiency air conditioners to energy-vulnerable groups at a time when heat waves are worsening due to climate change,” and “We expect that Samsung Electronics’ high-efficiency air conditioners will help improve the health and quality of life of energy-vulnerable groups during the summer.”
