Earlier this month, a market analysis revealed that Samsung shipped the highest number of smartphones among all the brands in the Android space. Plus, it managed to achieve the same market share as Apple, globally. Well, as it turns out, Samsung also sold more premium smartphones than all its Android competitors.
Counterpoint Research has published an analysis of the global smartphone market in 2024. Among the things that it reveals, the firm reports that the average selling price (ASP) of Galaxy smartphones was USD 299. Whereas, the ASP of its three closest rivals, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi phones was $247, $215, and $152 respectively.
It means that the South Korean tech giant sold more premium smartphones than its rivals in the Android space. Apple, on the other hand, is in a totally different league. The ASP of iPhones is $903, almost three times the ASP of Samsung. However, that's mainly because Apple only sells premium smartphones.
You might have seen influencers and even tech reviewers saying that Chinese brands’ flagship phones are better than the ones from Samsung. However, people still prefer Galaxy phones over the ones from other brands, as is evident from the numbers.
That’s most likely because Samsung’s flagship phones are overall better compared to the ones from Chinese brands, which usually excel only in a few aspects. People also seem to prefer Samsung’s One UI compared to Android skin from other brands.
Another reason why Samsung sells more phones in general is reach. It is present in more markets globally compared to its rivals, and in the markets it is available, the South Korean tech giant has more sales points and service centers than its competitors.
