The facility is called Samsung Student Ecosystem for Engineered Data (SEED) Lab and will be open to students and faculty members of the college, who will get the opportunity to work alongside Samsung engineers on cutting-edge projects. It will focus on domains of mobile camera tech, speech and text recognition, and machine learning.
The benefits of the said research could trickle down into future Samsung smartphones. Although they pack one of the best hardware on the market, they lose out to the likes of Google due to lacklustre software. The speech and text recognition could, on paper, inch Bixby closer to market leaders such as Alexa.
SEED spans over 3,000 sq. ft. and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to work on AI, ML, Internet of Things & Connected Devices and 5G networks. It also has archives that allow researchers to store the vast amounts of data generated by the said research.

Industry and academia have had a long history of working together to share data and the endeavour should help Samsung advance some of its technologies. Ideally, we should see the fruits of the collaboration in action in the next year or so.
