At CES 2023, Samsung announced two new technologies—Ready Car and Ready Tune—for vehicles, in collaboration with its subsidiary brand Harman. Ready Care determines the driver’s physical and emotional condition. Based on the information gathered, it changes various settings of the car to improve driving safety and experience. Ready Tune can intelligently adjust sound settings to offer the best possible audio experience.

Ready Care

Let’s start with Ready Care. This new technology from Harman and Samsung uses cameras and sensors placed inside a car as well as health-related data from wearables such as the Galaxy Watch to determine the driver’s state of mind, which includes cognitive distraction, visual distraction, and drowsiness.

Based on these three parameters, Ready Care can change multiple parameters of the car to improve safety while driving. For example, if the system detects that the driver is sleepy, it changes the audio volume, in-car lighting, and air conditioning settings to keep the driver awake.

Similarly, if the system detects that the driver is stressed (through Galaxy Watch readings), it will enable a feature called Stress-Free Routing. It will provide a navigation route that involves less amount of traffic and weather-related issues, even if it means taking a longer route, to keep the stress levels in check.

Then there’s Relaxing Mode. This feature, with the help of Samsung SmartThings, can control smart home devices such as lighting, air conditioning, and TV. Based on the driver’s state of mind, Relaxing Mode will adjust various parameters of these devices just before the driver arrives home so that the person feels relaxed.

Based on the data gathered from in-car cameras and sensors, leveraging health information collected from devices such as the Galaxy Watch, and using the company’s services such as SmartThings, Samsung aims to improve driving safety and provide seamless integration between various connected systems.

Ready Tune

As for Ready Tune, Samsung says that it can “utilizes proprietary acoustic technologies to upgrade base-level audio systems for enhanced branded listening experiences at the touch of a button.” Users can enable Live Mode if they want to enjoy the acoustics of live stadium performances or switch to Talk Mode, which will enhance spoken content such as podcasts, audiobooks, and phone conversations.

Samsung Ready Care and Ready Tune are a part of the company’s In-Cabin eXperience (ICX), and Samsung has set up a booth at CES 2023 so that people can experience it.
