Samsung has brought back the Dual Rec and Single Take camera modes to One UI 8.5, but there's a twist. These modes are no longer available in the Modes section of the camera by default.
Samsung revealed earlier that the two popular modes, which were missing in the initial One UI 8.5 beta, would return through an update to the Camera Assistant app. That update is now available, and Camera Assistant now has an Additional modes section where you can select whether Single Take and Dual Rec show up in the Modes selector.
Samsung hasn't given an explanation for why it decided to make this change, but we can assume the company wasn’t seeing these modes being used often enough to justify keeping them in the main list of camera modes.
Still, removing existing features and then expecting users to download the Camera Assistant app to use them again feels unnecessary, and we hope Samsung will share its official reasoning for this decision.
In any case, if you’ve installed the One UI 8.5 beta on a Galaxy S25-series phone, you can download the Camera Assistant app from the Galaxy Store, open it from the app drawer or through the camera app’s settings, and then scroll to the bottom to enable the two modes.
