A few days ago, we learned that Samsung was developing a camera system with continuous or variable optical zoom for mobile devices. Well, we now have some new information about it.
On X, Pixel Gamer 4K claims that the name of Samsung’s upcoming camera system with variable focal length is HP-B, it features a 200MP camera sensor, and most importantly, Samsung has started mass producing it.
The post also contains a GIF showing a camera system with a 3x to 7x variable optical zoom, autofocus, and prism OIS. However, we aren’t sure if this is a demonstration of Samsung HP-B or a generic demonstration of how the technology works.
In the previous report about this camera system, we learned that Samsung is not making it for Galaxy smartphones but for other (Chinese) smartphone brands. Considering that and leaks about the Galaxy S26 series, it is almost certain that we may not see it in the Galaxy S26 Pro, Galaxy S26 Edge, or Galaxy S26 Ultra.
If the latest report about Samsung starting the mass production of HP-B is true, the brand may announce the product soon, revealing more details about it.
