Samsung lets you control home appliances from your car

Ever thought about turning on one of your home appliances using your car's infotainment system while you're driving back home?

Samsung has a solution for you. The company today announced that it's teaming up with Hyundai Motor Group, which sells vehicles under the Hyundai and Kia brands, to launch a Car-to-Home feature that lets you do just that.

These companies have previously collaborated on a Home-to-Car service, whereby you could control various functions in one of the more recent models through smart devices in your home.

This Car-to-Home feature will enable you to control various SmartThings-enabled appliances, such as air conditioners, air purifiers, robot vacuum cleaners, and lights inside the home through the infotainment system.

The devices can be linked to the car's infotainment system by scanning the QR code of the SmartThings app installed on the system. The Routines feature of SmartThings can then be configured as well.

For example, you can have a Routine where all ACs in the house are switched off the moment you drive off and the robot vacuum cleaner is powered up to clean the house in your absence.

This capability is currently available on select Hyundai Motor Group vehicles in South Korea. Samsung could eventually partner with other car manufacturers to offer similar capabilities in even more markets across the globe.
