It was reported yesterday that Samsung might soon increase the prices for its foldable phones in its home country of South Korea. That price change has gone in effect today.
Prices for both foldable phones have been marginally increased in the country. It remains unclear if Samsung intends to implement a similar price increase in other markets.
According to local market reports, the 512GB Galaxy Z Flip 7 price in South Korea has been increased from 1.64 million ($1,088) Korean won to 1.73 million won ($1,148). That's a $60 increase based on prevailing exchange rates.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 with the same amount of storage has gone up from 2.53 million won ($1,673) to 2.63 million won ($1,744). This represents a roughly $71 price increase.
Samsung has only raised the prices for the 512GB models. The base model pricing remains the same, so the entry barrier hasn't been raised. Only customers who want higher internal storage will need to pay more now.
Industry analysts believe that this decision has likely been made to reflect the increasing global costs of several components, such as memory chips, as well as to account for the recent exchange rate volatility.
A Samsung official quoted in the report has said that it was “inevitable” to raise prices for some products due to the prices of some components rising globally.
