Samsung's clamshell foldable has come a long way since the original Galaxy Z Flip, and on July 9, the company took the stage in New York City to unveil the latest model: the Galaxy Z Flip 7.

What does Samsung's newest flip phone bring to the table? What specs, features, and upgrades does it offer? Let’s break it all down.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 features a massive cover screen

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 was the first phone in the lineup that had an actually usable cover screen. With the Flip 7, Samsung is taking another step forward. The Galaxy Z Flip 7’s 4.1-inch cover display, officially named the Flex Window, now spans the entire front side of the device and wraps around the cameras.

This is a significant jump from the 3.4-inch screen on the Flip 5 and Flip 6. The cover display has a 120Hz refresh rate and reaches up to 2,600 nits of brightness, making it ultra-responsive and easy to use outdoors. While the cover screen doesn’t support running full apps out of the box, Samsung’s Good Lock app can circumvent that.

The inner display has also grown, now measuring 6.9 inches, up from 6.7 inches on the Flip 6. It sports 2,600 nits of brightness, 120Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. The displays are accompanied by stereo speakers.

The first Samsung foldable to use an Exynos chip

For the first time ever, a Galaxy Z Flip device uses an Exynos processor. The Flip 7 runs on the Exynos 2500 processor in all regions, including the USA. The Exynos 2500 is a 10-core chip with an AMD Radeon-based Xclipse 950 GPU.

It comes with 12GB of RAM as standard, along with 256GB and 512GB storage options. There’s no 1TB variant, as Samsung continues to reserve that for its ultra-premium flagships.

In terms of connectivity, the Flip 7 supports 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and a USB 3.2 Type-C port. It also includes satellite messaging support thanks to the Exynos 2500 chipset.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 battery is the biggest yet in the lineup

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Z Flip 7 with a 4,300mAh battery, up from 4,000mAh in the Flip 6. That’s just 100mAh short of the Galaxy Z Fold’s battery capacity, and should enable a huge step forward for battery life on the company's clamshell foldables.

However, charging speeds haven't received an upgrade. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 supports 25W super fast charging with a compatible charger. It also supports 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

A familiar camera setup

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will disappoint photography enthusiasts, just like all existing Flip smartphones. Camera hardware remains familiar: the phone includes a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP front camera. A telephoto lens is still missing, which isn’t surprising given the compact form factor and the massive cover screen.

The camera experience is improved with enhanced software processing, including better low-light performance and richer color reproduction. The Flex Window now supports Real-Time Filters, a new zoom slider, and Dual Preview mode, letting both the photographer and the subject view the shot live.

Selfies continue to be a highlight thanks to the ability to use the rear camera and Flex Window as a viewfinder. Flex Mode also returns, turning the phone into a mini tripod for hands-free selfies, TikTok videos, or time-lapses.

Samsung also offers powerful editing tools powered by Galaxy AI, including a fantastic object eraser, that make it easy to edit and enhance photos and videos after you have taken them.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 software: One UI 8 out of the box, seven years of updates

The Flip 7 ships with One UI 8, which is based on Android 16. It includes all the latest Galaxy AI features and, for the first time, Samsung DeX support (in both wired and wireless forms).

AI features like Gemini Live now work on the cover screen as well, letting users access AI functionality without even opening the phone.

A super thin design with exotic new color options

Made from Armor Aluminum, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the thinnest and lightest Flip yet. It measures 13.7mm when folded and 6.5mm when unfolded, and weighs just 188 grams. Despite a slimmer hinge, Samsung has improved durability through high-strength materials and a reworked design.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is available in four color options: Jet Black, Blue Shadow, Coral Red, and online-exclusive Mint.
