The Korean giant announced in early August that the Galaxy A55 would be among several Galaxy A-series phones to join the One UI 8 (Android 16) beta program, and it is now one step closer to releasing the first beta update to the A56's successor: a beta One UI 8 firmware for the A55 has been discovered on Samsung's servers.
Like the One UI 7 beta program, the beta program for One UI 8 has progressed rather slowly. Samsung only offered it to the Galaxy S25 series for the first couple of months; in August, it extended access to the Galaxy S24 lineup, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
The Galaxy S23 series, the Fold 5, and the Flip 5 will likely receive the beta before eligible mid-range devices join the party. Speaking of eligible devices, Samsung has excluded the Galaxy A56 from the list for some reason, even though it's the latest, most powerful and most expensive mid-range Galaxy phone available right now.
Oddly, the Galaxy A36, which launched alongside the A56, did make the list. The Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A35 are eligible for the One UI 8 beta as well. It's possible Samsung will add more mid-range devices to the beta program down the line, though chances of that happening are low, as the stable One UI 8 release is scheduled to begin next month.
