Samsung announced a partnership with Coolblue Energie in the Netherlands back in June this year. It promised free electricity for Samsung washing machines in the afternoon, when there's typically more supply than demand on the grid.
This partnership is now being expanded to cover the next logical step. Samsung has announced today that Coolblue Energie customers in the country will also get free electricity to use their dryers or washer dryer combos.
This partnership was meant to take advantage of the excess solar and wind energy on the grid. Samsung washing machine owners wouldn't get charged any electricity tariff, VAT or energy tax on their machine's consumption during the hours of 12:00 and 15:00 every single day.
Starting today, Coolblue Energie customers can't just power their Samsung washing machine for free, but they'll also be able to power both their dryer or washer dryer combo free of charges between 12:00 and 15:00.
The SmartThings app ensures that these appliances only turn on automatically during the free hours, even when the user isn't at home. All power consumed during these hours is automatically settled on the energy provider's invoice.
There's nothing that users need to do on their end to take advantage of this partnership. All they need is a Samsung appliance that's connected to SmartThings. The free washing and drying function benefit is then applied automatically as long as they have an active Coolblue Energie contract.
