At its Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026 booth, Samsung Display showcased its first crease-less foldable OLED panel. It is likely that this is the panel that will be used in the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which will be launched in the second half of this year. It could also be used in Apple's first foldable iPhone.

We checked out the new foldable panel in person at CES in Las Vegas, USA. Compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7's foldable panel side-by-side, this new panel has no visible crease at all. While the foldable OLED panel on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which was launched last year, reduced crease visibility drastically, you can still see it at certain angles. But that doesn't seem to be the case with the South Korean firm's new panel.

Samsung Display has set up a ‘Crease Test' area in which its new foldable OLED panel and the existing foldable OLED panel are placed side by side. The company claims that the newer panel offers “seamless text across the fold” to offer seamless viewing.

Based on previous reports, Samsung's new foldable OLED panel is paired with a laser-drilled metal display plate. It reportedly allows the phone to disperse the stress generated when you fold the screen, allowing it to be crease-free. This metal plate is expected to be supplied by South Korean firm Fine M-Tec. It is reportedly used in the foldable iPhone as well.

If this is the panel that ends up being used for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the phone could solve one of the biggest issues people have with foldable screen phones. Besides the visibility of the crease, the panel could also offer improved screen durability, which is another point of concern with foldable phones.
