Today, Samsung announced that its Sleep Apnea detection feature is going live for Galaxy Watches in a few more dozen markets, including 34 European countries, Australia, and Singapore.
Samsung initially released Sleep Apnea detection for Galaxy Watches in the USA last year after the FDA granted it the De Novo certification. Since then, the Sleep Apnea feature continued to reach Galaxy Watch users in more regions. Now, it's expanding further.
Samsung announced today that the Sleep Apnea feature received the CE (Conformité Européenne / European Conformity) label for the European Economic Area, which allows the company to roll out the feature to 34 more markets across the continent.
In addition, the Therapeutic Goods Administration in Australia and the Health Sciences Authority in Singapore approved Samsung's Sleep Apnea feature for Galaxy Watches. It is going live in these two countries as well.
In total, the Sleep Apnea detection feature for Galaxy Watches is now available in 70 markets across the globe. It is accessible through the Samsung Health Monitor app and is compatible with the Galaxy Watch 4 series and later models.
Sleep Apnea detection for Samsung smartwatches is an over-the-counter software-only medical application intended to detect signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults ages 22 and over. It is not a substitute for professional diagnosis or treatment and isn't intended for individuals who have previously been diagnosed with sleep apnea.
Nevertheless, it can be a valuable tool, and numerous Galaxy Watch users in the past have shared stories about how the feature changed their lives for the better. Sleep apnea can lead to restless nights and cause other serious health issues. Detecting it can be tricky, but Galaxy Watches can help.
Samsung's Galaxy Watch feature uses the BioActive Sensor to detect blood oxygen saturation and looks for significant disruptions in breathing over a two-night monitoring period. If patterns emerge, the Health Monitor app can inform users of potential sleep apnea issues and advise them to seek the expertise of a health professional.
