While Samsung has launched multiple 200MP camera sensors over the past few years, none of them have matched the size of the largest smartphone camera sensors produced by rivals OmniVision and Sony. However, Samsung is reportedly developing its biggest 200MP sensor yet to better compete with its rivals.

ISOCELL HPA is reportedly Samsung's biggest camera sensor ever

Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station claims that Samsung is working on a new 200MP camera sensor that will reportedly launch as the ISOCELL HPA. It is said to feature a 1/1.12-inch sensor size, making it nearly (89%) as large as the 1-inch sensors offered by Sony and OmniVision. Moreover, it is the same size as Sony’s first 200MP camera sensor, the LYT-901, and as big as Samsung's own 50MP ISOCELL GN2 sensor.

The ISOCELL HPA is rumored to use Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor (LOFIC) technology. LOFIC sensors are known for delivering a significantly wider dynamic range than regular camera sensors, allowing them to capture details in very dark and very bright areas of a scene without underexposure or overexposure. The sensor is expected to launch in 2027 and could be used in Ultra-branded phones from Chinese brands.

According to tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will use the ISOCELL HP6 sensor as its primary camera. This sensor is reportedly a 1/1.3-inch 200MP unit, making it smaller than the ISOCELL HPA. However, its performance is said to be comparable due to newer technologies. The Galaxy S27 Ultra is also expected to feature an upgraded 50MP ultrawide camera.
