Every year, Qualcomm launches one flagship chipset for mobile devices. For example, last year, the brand launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite, and the year before that, it launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Well, that isn’t going to be the case this year.
According to a popular tipster from China, Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm will launch two flagship chipsets this year, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 (or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2) and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (via Android Authority).
The tipster claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will not be a successor to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. In other words, it will not be positioned as a lower-level chipset compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. Reportedly, it will use the in-house developed Oryon CPU cores and be made on TSMC’s N3P fabrication process.
At the moment, there’s no information on how the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will be different from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. DCS suggests that most leading smartphone manufacturers have already made plans to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 for their upcoming devices. However, there’s no information on whether Samsung is one of them.
