When was the last time you called your mother? If you need to think about how long it's been, that's no good, and Samsung's One UI 8.5 wants to make sure you don't repeat these transgressions.
It adds a card in Now Brief that provides gentle reminders to call your loved ones who you've not been in touch with for a while.
First highlighted on X, this Now Brief card nudges the user to reach out to their family. It even shows how many days have passed since you last contacted that family member. You can then initiate a call or use the Not now button to dismiss the card.
There's little visibility in what's going on behind the scenes for Now Brief to surface this suggestion. Chances are, it's simply cross-referencing contacts saved in your phone as “mom,” “dad,” “brother,” with how long has it been since your last contact to serve gentle reminders to keep in touch with your family.
This is one of the few examples where one can agree that there's benefits to artificial intelligence. You may not be avoiding reaching out to your loved ones on purpose. We all get caught up in lives and things can just slip through the cracks.
When that happens, rest assured that One UI 8.5 will have your back, and it will give you timely reminders to hold on to those connections, because that's what really matters.
One UI 8.5 Now Brief has kindly reminded me to contact my family, as I haven't been in touch with them recently 🥲📞
This is quite thoughtful, I must admit. pic.twitter.com/57zpWpflOu— NirmalSri (@nirmalsri7) January 2, 2026
