Samsung’s next operating system customisation for Galaxy smartphones and tablets, One UI 8.5, will offer a host of new features. One of them, which we recently discovered, was the Network Battery Saver, which intelligently restricts the usage of the network to reduce power usage and offers increased battery life. Well, it looks like the software will also have a feature to reduce mobile data usage while using social media apps to prevent high mobile data bills.
In One UI 8.5, folks at Android Authority have come across a string of code revealing that it will have a feature called Adaptive Data Saver. According to its description, when you are using social media apps, this feature will load videos only when you are ready to watch them (we assume when you hit the play button), and not before it. It may also stop auto-playing videos. In this way, if you weren’t going to watch a video, rest assured that the phone hasn’t used data to load it.
Samsung says that when you are using Adaptive Data Saver, you will not notice any change in video speed or quality, in most cases at least. The exact description reads “Use less data in social media apps by only downloading videos when you’re ready to watch them. In most cases, you won’t notice any change in video speed or quality.”
With it, people can reduce the amount of mobile data a Galaxy phone uses, which will help them reduce their network bills. Most of us have unlimited Wi-Fi and mobile data plans. However, that may not hold true for everyone around the globe. For them, this feature could be a boon. Samsung is expected to debut One UI 8.5 with the Galaxy S26 series.
