The Galaxy Z Fold 7 brings massive improvements over its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, in terms of thickness, measuring just 8.9mm. While the phone is super-slim, it didn’t arrive as the thinnest device in the segment.
That crown was held by the Honor Magic V5, at least going by the official numbers shared by the two brands. However, a few people pointed out that the Chinese brand was faking numbers and Samsung was being too modest with its figures, and that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 was the thinnest phone among its rivals.
To check that was indeed the case, we measured the thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Honor Magic V5, and next two thinnest devices in the segment, the Oppo Find N5 and Vivo X Fold 5, using a micrometer caliper.
To our surprise, we found that people weren’t lying but the Chinese brands were, and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the thinnest smartphone with a book-style foldable display on the market. Well, now, we have a report from a reputed agency in Korea that suggests the same thing, which backs up our data.
The Korean Consumer-Centered Enterprise Association (KCEA) measured the thickness of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Honor Magic V5, Huawei Mate X6, Vivo X Fold 5, and Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, and found that they measure 8.82mm, 9.34mm, 10.47mm, 9.77mm, and 9.61mm respectively, as you can see in the image below (via Business Korea).
It means that according to their test too, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the thinnest smartphone with a book-style foldable display on the market. That’s not all. It is also the lightest among its competitors. All of this despite being one of the most powerful and feature-packed devices in the segment. It is commendable what Samsung has achieved.
