While Samsung brought major improvements to the design and form factor of its foldable phones with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, its battery and S Pen incompatibility left something to be desired. To compete with the phone, Motorola unveiled its first book-style foldable phone: RAZR Fold. Besides having good hardware, it features an active stylus.
The Motorola RAZR Fold is the Lenovo-owned company's first book-style foldable phone, and it was showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026 in Las Vegas, USA. In terms of hardware specifications, it has three things going in its favor:
The RAZR Fold has a 6.6-inch cover screen and an 8.1-inch foldable screen. Both displays use LTPO OLED panels with a high refresh rate and Dolby Vision. The phone is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip, which sits one step below Qualcomm's latest flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
It runs Android 16 and will get seven major Android OS updates and security updates for up to seven years. It has a 20MP internal selfie camera and a 32MP cover screen selfie camera. Its 5,200mAh Silicon-Carbon anode battery supports much faster wired charging (90W). However, the phone is visibly thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Reports claim that the RAZR Fold will cost just $1,500 in the US, undercutting the Galaxy Z Fold 7 by around $400. However, it may not be available via AT&T.
If Motorola manages to launch the RAZR Fold in the US at its rumored price, it could steal at least some potential Galaxy Z Fold 7 buyers.
Samsung will likely launch the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in mid-2026, though. It is rumored to feature a crease-less foldable display, a faster chip (Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5), better cameras, a bigger battery, and faster charging. It could even be compatible with an S Pen stylus.
