Even more Samsung Galaxy Books will get Windows 11's AI features

Last year, Microsoft announced a slew of AI-powered features for devices running the Windows 11 operating system. However, most of those features were limited to devices with the chips from AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm that have a powerful NPU, which include the Galaxy Book 5 series and the Galaxy Book 4 Edge. The company is now expanding the availability of those features to most other devices.

Windows 11 to bring more AI features to devices without an NPU

Microsoft announced a range of AI-powered features for all Windows 11 devices yesterday. These features include Copilot Actions, which enable AI agents to perform tasks on your behalf. Additionally, the Hey Copilot wake word and Copilot shortcut will be integrated into the taskbar.

Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s chief consumer officer, confirmed that these features are compatible with all Windows 11 devices, regardless of whether they have a Copilot+ PC. A Copilot+ PC is a device equipped with a processing chip that has a built-in NPU capable of offering 40 TOPS or more AI inferencing performance.

Earlier these features were limited to the Galaxy Book 4 Edge and the Galaxy Book 5 series, but will now come to all previous Galaxy Book laptops running Windows 11.

Copilot shortcut on the taskbar: You can access Copilot right from the taskbar on a device running the Windows 11 OS. It will also replace the existing search bar and it can handle regular searches like apps, files, and settings. However, this is an opt-in change, and you can revert if you don't like having the Copilot app's shortcut on the taskbar.

Hey Copilot: You can activate Copilot by just saying the ‘Hey Copilot' hotword, as the computer keeps listening for it like a smart speaker does.

Copilot Vision: Copilot can see what is on your PC's screen and can help you with several things. This is similar to how Google's Gemini Live works. But if you don't want to talk to your PC, you can interact with it using text. It can walk you through tasks with specific apps.

Copilot Actions: Powered by AI agents, it can complete tasks on your PC without your intervention. For example, you can upload images and ask it to rotate them and delete duplicates. It can browse through files, take specific actions, and even browse the web to purchase products. In the future, you can offload low-priority tasks to Copilot while you focus on important ones. While the exact capabilities of Copilot Actions are still unclear, it will eventually be able to perform tasks within third-party apps.

Moreover, Microsoft also revealed that Copilot can soon link to your Google and Outlook accounts via a feature called ‘Connectors.' So, it can access your calendar entries, contacts, emails, and files and help you find information and make changes to those files or use those files to create new files with the information you want.

All these new AI-powered capabilities will roll out to all computers running Windows 11 over the next few months. Copilot Vision will be available in all markets where Copilot is already available. While these features don't need a Copilot+ PC certified devices, they will work faster on such machines.
