Samsung first introduced its Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec in late 2024, and the upcoming Galaxy S26 series is expected to be the first lineup to support it. Now, LumaFusion, a popular third-party video editing app, has added support for Samsung’s APV codec.

LumaFusion video editor now supports exporting videos in Samsung's APV codec

LumaFusion version 2.5 is now available for Android phones and tablets, bringing the ability to export videos using Samsung’s APV codec. APV is positioned as a rival to Apple’s ProRes video codec, promising higher video quality and advanced post-production capabilities. Recently, another popular third-party video editing app, DaVinci Resolve, brought APV support.

Support for APV has arrived in LumaFusion just a month ahead of the launch of the Galaxy S26 series, which is expected to offer APV video recording capabilities for enthusiasts and professional creators.

Alongside APV support, the latest LumaFusion update introduces two useful workflow improvements. The app now includes ‘Find Selected Clip in Library' and ‘Find Selected Clip in Timeline' options, making it easier to locate selected clips and reduce confusion while editing complex projects.

LumaFusion has also simplified how transitions are added to videos. Users can now apply both head and tail transitions to the same clip, select multiple clips and add transitions to all of them at once, and use a double-tap gesture to apply transitions to selected clips.

LumaFusion is priced at $29.99 on the Google Play Store and is available for download on Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

Samsung's APV is a modern and perceptually lossless video compression standard that delivers cinema-quality video while using around 20% less storage space compared to competing codecs.

In addition to improved compression, APV supports easier post-production editing, 4K and 8K resolutions, 10-bit to 16-bit color depth, HDR, and intra-frame encoding. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the world's first smartphone chip to support the APV codec.

Google added native APV support with Android 16. It allows Android devices to deliver professional-grade video recording and editing features, similar to those found on newer iPhones (iPhone 13 or later). The iPhone 17 Pro series even supports ProRes RAW, which is a lossless video format.
