To that end, Apple would need to make improvements to the chipset for its iPhone 16 so that the phone can power all of these new AI features. A new report claims that the company will equip the iPhone 16's A18 chipset with a significantly upgraded neural engine. It's also claimed that the new neural engine will be equipped on the M4 chips for next-generation MacBooks.
We already know that the company plans on bringing AI features to its phones this year. It was confirmed by Apple CEO Tim Cook himself. So it makes perfect sense for the company to make the hardware changes required to power those features.
A more powerful neural engine will enable the devices to provide users with a bevy of generative AI features. While details from the company have been slim, reports suggest that new generative AI features will be introduced for Siri, Apple Music, Messages, Shortcuts, and more.
Apple is expected to share more information about these features in June when iOS 18 is unveiled at its WWDC event. iOS 18 will be launched with the company's new iPhones later this year. This also suggests that Apple's generative AI features may only be limited to the iPhone 16 and not arrive on previous models due to hardware limitations. On the other hand, Samsung is bringing some Galaxy AI features to older models.
