We were present in San Jose when it all happened, and after the presentation, Samsung opened a demo booth where the Galaxy S25 Edge was dangling from a hook next to a few mockup Galaxy S devices.
The reason for this demonstration was to show just how thin the Galaxy S25 Edge is. So, how thin is this upcoming phone?
The truth is nobody but Samsung knows the exact dimensions of the Galaxy S25 Edge. In fact, even Samsung might have doubts about it, as the Galaxy S25 Edge demo unit was showcased next to a caveat that said the final design might change by the time the phone goes on sale.
What we're sure of is that the Galaxy S25 Edge demo unit looked very thin next to the other mockup models, as you can probably see in the photos we shot at Unpacked.
Samsung wants slimness to be one of the main things that will differentiate the Galaxy S25 Edge from other phones. That's for sure. And here's what the pre-Unpacked rumors were saying about the so-called Galaxy S25 Slim.
As far as rumors go, the Galaxy S25 Edge measures 159 x 76 x 6.4mm. That's slim enough to make the Galaxy S25 Edge the thinnest commercially available rigid phone and just thin enough to beat the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which measures 6.9mm when unfolded.
Even so, a 6.4mm profile isn't thin enough to beat the current Samsung record holder in terms of slab-type smartphones. The crown goes to the decade-old Galaxy A8 (2015), which has a 5.9mm profile.
However, we have to keep in mind that — according to Samsung — the Galaxy S25 Edge's characteristics revealed at Unpacked are subject to change. That still isn't a guarantee that anything will actually change, but regardless, nobody knows if the S25 Edge demo unit measured 6.9mm or less.
In other words, the rumors have yet to be confirmed, even after Samsung dangled the Galaxy S25 Edge in front of Unpacked attendees.
That is why we hope Samsung will work its magic and make the Galaxy S25 Edge the new record holder, or at least very close to it.
But considering all these variables, we'll have to wait and see how the Galaxy S25 Edge turns out before we pass our final judgment regarding the phone's thinness. Still, every data point indicates that the Galaxy S25 Edge will at least be thinner than the slimmest S25 model currently available, i.e., the base Galaxy S25, which has a 7.2mm profile.
