Google Photos app is making it easier to search for similar faces

Google Photos has a Lens feature built-in that lets you scan your photo and search for similar results around the web. While this is beneficial if you are desperately looking for similar items your favorite actor has worn, it is not a very attractive feature for normal users. Well, Google seems to have understood this as it is replacing the ‘Lens' button with a more productive image ‘Search' button.

As spotted by Android Police, for some people, the Google Photos app has stopped showing the ‘Lens' button and is replaced by a normal image ‘Search' button. Using this search button on images with faces allows the user to highlight the faces on the image and locate images with the highlighted faces in your image gallery.

This feature could come in quite handy as it would help you go down memory lane with related images. This isn't a new functionality, and tapping on one of the recognized faces lets you search for photos with the same face or even copy text from an image. Tapping anything else in the photo opens the full-fledged Google Lens app.

For normal users, the image search button could be quite useful, but if you use Google Lens quite frequently, then you might have to make a little adjustment. As of now, the new Google Photos image Search button seems to be a limited experience as it hasn't been rolled out to everyone. Only a few users have seen the change, and it should roll out once Google deems the test successful.
