Over the years, Google products have gained many features that not only save time but enhance the user experience. Now, Google is working on making the swipe actions more customizable on the Google Messages app, which will help you sort out the trash in your inbox more conveniently. Apparently, the feature will add more options to the swipe actions in the messaging app that comes pre-installed on many Samsung phones.

In 2018, Gmail gained the ability to swipe gestures. As of now, you can define one action for the right swipe and another one for the left swipe. By default, both actions archive the email. This swipe gesture feature made its way to the Google Messages app as a beta test in July 2022, just giving three options: archiving texts, deleting them, and turning the swipe feature off.

The Google Messages swipe action feature isn't widely rolling out as of yet

As per Android Police, Google Messages is beta testing new swipe actions. This will help the users mark the messages as read or unread with a single swipe. You can tweak the swipe actions inside the Google Messages Settings under Swipe Actions. The feature is visible in the Message app v20230512_01_RC00 beta.

However, some users reported that the setting wasn't available for them on the latest beta app, and others who received the feature have reported that the setting is gone, suggesting it may be a server-side change. This new swipe action feature will help users quickly perform the read and unread actions. And the feature would make the swipe actions on the Messages app comparable to those on the Gmail app.
