Google's software ecosystem has been quite messy, but the company has been trying to simplify things over the past couple of years. It shut down Google Play Music in favor of YouTube Music, and it is closing Google Podcasts and bringing podcasts to YouTube Music so that it becomes the place to go for all your audio needs. Now, it is replacing Google Assistant's lists and notes.

You could ask Google Assistant to create a shopping list or notes, which would be stored in the Google Assistant app. You can access those lists and notes through a web browser by clicking this link (Lists and Notes) or this link (Shopping Lists). However, those webpages don't look the part on Android. But Google will import them into Google Keep (via 9To5Google), which has native apps for Android and iOS.

Google has announced that Google Assistant lists and notes will be automatically moved to Google Keep. You don't need to do anything to move your Google Assistant lists and notes to Google Keep. However, some lists won't be transferred automatically to Google Keep, and they are:

  • Family notes created through smart displays
  • Some lists are too large for Google Keep, such as those with titles longer than 999 characters, notes longer than 19,999 characters, lists more than 999 items, and lists with any item longer than 999 characters.

In such cases, those items will be available in Google Takeout, a central system by Google where all your data can be exported, until May 1, 2024.
