In 2017, Google added Google Assistant to Chrome OS, giving people access to its first-generation virtual assistant to seek help for a wide array of tasks. Now, after more than seven years, the company is replacing it with Gemini, the company’s second-generation virtual assistant, which is more advanced in many ways.
Google is rolling out Chrome OS M134. It brings three new features. One among them is Gemini. With that, when you open the launcher, you will now see an icon for Gemini instead of that for Google Assistant at the top-right corner of the panel. You can check it out in the image below. However, there are a few disadvantages to it.
With Google Assistant, you could just say “Hey Google” to summon the AI Assistant. With Gemini, you can’t do that. That's because there’s no wake work for the new AI assistant and saying “Hey Google” doesn’t summon Gemini as it does on Android smartphones and tablets.
Plus, Gemini doesn’t work with Google Home, which is something that Google Assistant is capable of. That being said, Gemini is more advanced than Google Assistant. With that, the former can help in a better way with many tasks on your Samsung Galaxy Chromebook.
