TL;DR

  • Samsung may increase Galaxy Z Fold 8 production by 1 million units after stronger-than-expected demand.
  • ETNews says Samsung is considering a new wider foldable model for 2027 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 9.
  • Samsung could be developing up to five Galaxy Z phones for next year, all expected to launch in the second half.

It appears the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is selling even better than Samsung expected, forcing the South Korean firm to increase production by an additional one million units. Now, a new report from ETNews indicates the company is considering launching another wide foldable phone next year.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has been so popular that Samsung has reportedly decided to launch two wide-screen Galaxy Z Fold series phones in 2027. One will be the Galaxy Z Fold 9, the direct successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the other will be an entirely new Galaxy Z Fold model featuring a wide-screen aspect ratio. The name of this newer model is not yet clear.

The aspect ratio of this additional wide model is reportedly optimized for watching videos and differs from the 4:3 aspect ratio found on the Galaxy Z Fold 8. This suggests the inner folding display could be even wider, potentially adopting a 16:9 aspect ratio.

The company is also reportedly developing the Galaxy Z Flip 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, and Galaxy Z TriFold 2.

  • Galaxy Z Flip 9
  • Galaxy Z Fold 9
  • An even wider Galaxy Z Fold 9 series phone (name unknown)
  • Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z TriFold 2 (expected name)

Samsung's goal is to reportedly offer a diverse range of form factors to accelerate the adoption of foldable smartphones through new buyers rather than attracting existing foldable phone users. This strategy aims to tap into broader consumer preferences without cannibalizing sales of its existing Galaxy Z series devices.

So, in total, the South Korean seems to be working on as many as five Galaxy Z series phones for next year. All of them will launch be announced in the second half of next year and could debut with One UI 10, based on Android 18. All of them could also bring even more advanced AI-powered features and automations.
