With just one week left before Samsung unveils its new foldable phones, reports have surfaced about higher prices and reduced preorder perks. However, a new report claims that the South Korean firm could continue offering its usual preorder benefit, free double storage, for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
According to News1 Korea, Samsung has decided to continue its “Free Double Storage” offer for Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 series preorders to drive early sales of its foldable phones. If you pay the price of a 256GB version of any of the three foldable phones, you will receive the 512GB version instead.
However, if you pay for a 512GB version of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, you will not receive a free upgrade to the 1TB version. Instead, you will have to pay 50% of the price difference between the 512GB and 1TB versions of those devices.
The upcoming phones will be announced on July 22, 2026, during the Galaxy Unpacked event in London, UK. They will go on pre-order in select countries on the same day and reportedly reach store shelves starting August 5, 2026.
Samsung began offering this ‘Free Double Storage' pre-order perk with the Galaxy S23 series in 2023 to drive demand for phones during their initial sales period. It will reportedly continue the offer this year, too, despite significantly higher memory chip prices.
Due to the ongoing AI boom, demand for memory chips is extremely high while supply remains limited. This has led to higher prices for DRAM, HBM, and NAND flash chips, affecting the manufacturing costs of almost all electronic devices, including phones, tablets, laptops, PCs, and smartwatches.
