Samsung's taking its first shot at selling an “affordable” foldable phone with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. The new model is expected to be launched alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 at the Unpacked event in New York next month.
Price is going to make or break this device. Samsung has to get it absolutely right for customers, particularly those who have been apprehensive about making the shift, to opt for this device over conventional phones.
A new report out of South Korea claims that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE will start at 1 million won or roughly $750 for the 128GB base model. Samsung is expected to offer the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE in both 128GB and 256GB models.
Previous reports have already highlighted the possibility that Samsung may not raise prices for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and that it may start at the same $1,099 price tag as its predecessor, at least in the US and most other markets. It's expected that there may be slight price hikes in a few markets.
Today's report reiterates that claim, suggesting that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be priced exactly the same as the Galaxy Z Flip 6 in South Korea at 1,485,000 won or roughly $1,095.
While there's no official word on the specs as yet, it's believed that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE will be powered by the Exynos 2400e chipset, have the same cameras as the Galaxy Z Flip 5, and potentially offer a similar battery capacity. It may offer just enough value proposition at this price point to entice customers to buy the device.
