The Wear OS 5.1 update is based on Android 15 (API Level 35), and it brings two new and important features that can make your smartwatch experience.
The first feature is called Credentials Manager, which was introduced to Android with the Android 14 update. It is now coming to smartwatches to make signing into apps and services easier by offering a unified sign-in method across devices. It stores your PIN, password, or federated identity (like Sign In With Google), and syncs them across all your Android-based devices.
The second feature is the ability to playback media via a smartwatch's loudspeaker. Currently, Android doesn't allow playback of media (like music tracks) directly via a smartwatch's speaker. With the Wear OS 5.1 update, you can stream music directly via your Galaxy Watch's loudspeaker when you don't have your Galaxy Buds nearby.
The Wear OS 5.1 Preview is currently available for developers (via Mishaal Rahman), and they can test their smartwatch apps that target API Level 35.
