Multiple reports have recently claimed that Samsung will finally upgrade the charging speeds on its phones with the Galaxy S26 Ultra. While we still have a couple of months more to go before Samsung's next flagship phone is announced, more details about its faster charging have potentially leaked.
One UI 8.5 firmware files have been making the rounds of the internet, and enthusiasts have spotted several upcoming features via those files. The folks over at Android Authority have managed to find text strings that mention ‘Super Fast Charging 3.0' in those firmware files. Even though those strings don't specifically mention the exact power output, it is likely referring to 60W fast charging that was leaked earlier.
Samsung first introduced fast charging in 2015 with the Galaxy S6 series, offering a power output of 15W. Then, five years later, it introduced 45W fast charging with the Galaxy S20 Ultra in 2020, only to drop it to 25W fast charging for the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
It then brought back 45W fast charging in 2022 with the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The company is expected to upgrade the charging speed to 60W with the Galaxy S26 Ultra in early 2026.
While most Chinese smartphone brands offer anywhere from 80W to 240W fast wired charging for their phones, all of them use proprietary charging protocols to reach those speeds. Apple, Google, and Samsung only use the USB Power Delivery (PD) standard for fast wired charging, making it easier to find charging accessories.
