According to famous tipster DCS, Samsung has started evaluating a 200MP camera sensor (1/1.5-inch optical format) for a telephoto camera. This is an unannounced sensor, as the company is yet to unveil a 1/1.5-inch 200MP sensor.
Given that most major camera upgrades first come to Galaxy S Ultra series phones, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could be the one to use this new 200MP camera.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra wouldn't be the first to use a 200MP telephoto camera, though. The Vivo X100 Ultra, Vivo X200 Pro, and the Honor Magic 7 Pro have already used 200MP sensors for their telephoto cameras.
Using an ultra-high-resolution sensor is a good idea for telephoto cameras. Besides offering more details, a higher resolution sensor also offers optical quality crops from the central part of the sensor.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra will reportedly feature a 200MP primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera, and a 50MP super-telephoto camera.
An ideal camera setup for the Galaxy S26 Ultra would be a 200MP primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, a 50MP telephoto camera, and a 200MP super-telephoto camera.
