Google's Gemini AI assistant has a feature called “Astra” which enables live camera and screen sharing with the assistant. This feature has been available on the Galaxy S25 series for some time now and users could access it free for six months. Other Samsung Galaxy phone users could use it as well but they'd have to pay for a Subscription.
The Astra features were only available to those with a Gemini Advanced subscription. Google has now decided to open up this feature for all Android phones, for free. It's available for other Samsung Galaxy phones now and simply requires an app download from the Google Play Store.
This feature lets you ask Google Gemini questions about what you're seeing on the screen while you have screen sharing enabled. You can also point the camera at something and ask Gemini about it. For example, point at a pair of shoes and ask if they go with the overall outfit.
This feature initially required a Gemini Advanced subscription. Since all Galaxy S25 customers got a free six-month subscription to Gemini Advanced, they could use the functionality without having to pay anything.
Since Google has now made the Astra features free for all, any compatible Samsung device is now eligible to access Gemini's live screen and camera sharing capabilities. All that's needed is the Gemini app which is available for download from the Play Store. The Gemini app is supported on devices running Android 10 and up.
